Things Worth Keeping

One of the best things about moving was finding things we’d forgotten we had.

Old signs. Old parts. Pieces of Leete history that had been sitting quietly on shelves for years.

One of my favorites is Frank McDonnough’s old load bank.

Frank could have bought one.

Instead, he built ours by hand.

We found the spare heating cones in a dusty box on a high shelf, still in perfect condition. They were part of the load bank Frank built to put the generator under a controlled electrical load and prove it could carry what it was supposed to before the lights ever went out.

We also uncovered an old Elliott Power Systems dealer sign that had been hiding behind a shelf.

Somehow, after all these years, it was still almost perfectly white.

Those are the things I love most about the new building. Not that everything is new — but that we now have room to bring some of the old things back out where they belong.

We have one very large white wall that still doesn’t feel like home.

It needs your stories.

I’ll share more of what we found soon.
